The third event of the 2010 Mondello Superbike Championship moves the new series on to the County Kildare circuits’ International track layout for the first time, with two day’s of Action this coming weekend (August 7th & 8th).

Over the previous three rounds the main battle has been in the Superbike Class where Waterford’s Brian McCormick and Portadown’s Marshall Neil have traded victories to sit locked together at the head of the championship standings. Just one point separates them with third placed David Haire more than thirty points in arrears. The two front runners will have some additional competition this weekend with the first Mondello appearance of the year by ISB front runners Kirk Jamison and Denver Robb along with a number of other ISB racers. The Cup class for less experienced riders continues to be led by Martin K Murphy from Balyfoyle who also sits fifth in the overall championship.

The Supersport class has been dominated by Glenn Irwin who has taken five wins from five races so far. Next best is Gary Jeffers who is forty points adrift. Irwin’s closest challenger from the first event of the year Jonny Buckley returns this weekend having missed an event and with Brian McCormick also competing in Supersport this time around, Irwin will really have to prove his worth to retain his 100% record. The Cup class battle is much closer with Jordan Bonner, Dermot Deegan and Austen Wilson the top three.

All of the classes will race three times over the weekend with qualifying and the first race taking place on Saturday. Sunday’s programme will see the remaining two races per class run off, with the third race for Superbikes and Supersport and the Grand Final as the features. The headline acts will race between 14:00 and 16:00 with pre race grid interviews and podium presentations as part of the show.

Alongside the Superbikes and Supersport the remaining races will be made up of a combined grid of 125cc and 250cc two-strokes, Sidecars, Lightweight Supersport, the combined Pre ’97 and Supertwin machines and the ‘B’ races for Superbike and Supersport Cup riders. Admission for each day is €15.00 but information on ticket discounts can be found on www.mondellopark.ie/specials.

For full timetable and championship information see the Mondello Park web site.

Relentless TAS Suzuki pair Cameron Donald and Bruce Anstey will ride at the Ulster Grand Prix on 14 August.

The Moneymore-based team has completed negotiations with the Dundrod Club organisers and both riders will compete in all the main classes.

The team has not enjoyed a successful roads season by its own high standards but have salvaged one podium at the North West 200 and two at the IOM TT.

Former Dundrod lap record holder John McGuinness is not racing at the UGP.

McGuinness will not be racing as he does not have suitable machinery.

Record-breaking TT hero Ian Hutchinson heads the entry while Guy Martin hopes to be fit to race after his TT crash.

Course lap record holder Conor Cummins will miss the meeting because of injuries he sustained during the Senior TT on the Isle of Man.

Hutchinson set a new record of five TT wins in a week at this year’s event in June and will ride Padgett’s Hondas in the Superbike, Superstock and Supersport races at the UGP.

Among the other riders entered for the international road race at Dundrod are Ian Lougher, Adrian Archibald, Gary Johnson, Keith Amor, Ryan Farquhar, William Dunlop and Michael Dunlop.

Irish Superbikes Championship Races

Tuesday 13th July

at

Kirkistown Race Circuit

MCRRCI & Killinchy clubs will once again promote another round of the Irish Superbike Championship at Kirkistown on Tuesday 13th July.

With all Championship leaders out to stretch their leads except for Ryan Farquhar who leads the 650 Supertwins and Paul Robinson who leads the 125gp class they will be absent.

Championship Classes catered for are 125gp, 250gp/SS 400, 650cc Supertwins, Supersports and Irish Superbikes. Non championship races for Moto 450 and Clubmen 600-1010cc.

Practice starts 9am sharp with racing approx.12.30pm.

Two championship races per class.

125gp class will have Nigel Percy, Stephen Kelly, Chris English and Sam Wilson trying to capitalize on Robinson’s absence.

Championship positions Robinson 140, Percy 111, Farquhar 96, Stephen Kelly 83, Chris English 71.

250gp Denver Robb looks to be in control but a small slip up could change things quickly as Richard Glasgow and Mark Hanna are sitting joint second with 112 points against Robb’s 140.

SS400 Carl Philips 140pts has a small lead over Joseph Loughlin 131pts and Ryan Maher 101pts. Both these classes produce excellent close racing.

650cc Supertwins will miss championship leader Ryan Farquhar 150pts who will be racing at the Southern 100 and will give Mark Glasgow 132pts the chance to take championship lead if Malcolm McKinney 104pts, Lee Wilson 65pts, Marty Lennon and Lee Hill let him, I don’t think so!

Supersports Will have 2009 Champion and 2010 series leader Glenn Irwin out to extend his lead that in his last few outings has been in record breaking form. Local rider Kirk Jamison, Jonny Buckley, Gary Jeffers and local BSB competitor BJ Toal will be trying every trick to get in front of Irwin. Also provisional entry for this class is Ian Lowry on board IFS Team Yamaha who are using the supersport class to keep him up to speed for the Spanish Moto 2 Championship, all in all supersports bring exciting and close racing.

Championship pts – Irwin 137pts, Buckley 119pts, Jamison 100pts.

Irish Superbikes should have the closest racing of the day with no more than 10 riders capable of taking wins in the 14 laps races.

Stephen Thompson, Gerard Kinghan, Mark Johnston, Denver Robb, David Haire, Brian McCormack, James Dickson, Richard Rea, Kirk Jamison all will be chasing Championship Leader and on form Marshal Neill from Portadown. Marshal leads the championship with 131pts from Cameron Donald 95pts who will also miss the event. Denver Robb 71pts and Gerard Kinghan 70pts are next in line to chase the points.

Sure thing come Tuesday afternoon if the weather isn’t hot the racing will be scorching HOT.

We like to welcome onboard Ards Tourism and Ards Borough Council who helped make this event happen.

We also have to thank Club support Walter Bell & Son Oil Fired Boilers, Slemish Water, Nutt Travel, Enkalon Club, Cardy Timber and the 500 Motor Club.

With this event in the middle of Northern Irelands summer holidays this gives everyone the opportunity to come see Irelands Best short circuit competitors put on one of the Best Shows to see.

All for £12 admission including a program, Kids are free.

Excellent day out for all. Onsite cafe etc.

It is with great sadness that Motorcycling Ireland’s Short Circuit Committee and Mondello Park regretfully announce that following an accident on the opening lap of the second race at yesterdays Motorcycle Expo Event, rider Dave Lynch has passed away.

Mr Lynch was stabilised at the circuit and was conscious before being transferred to Naas hospital where his conditioned deteriorated and he later succumbed to his injuries. Dave was an enthusiastic and experienced competitor who raced at the circuit regularly and had competed in last weeks Mondello Superbike Championship.

Like many of his fellow riders he was looking forward to the demonstration races at the Expo where large crowds were expected and it was viewed as a real opportunity for Circuit Racing to impress. Both Motorcycling Ireland and Mondello Park wish to pass on their deepest sympathy to Dave’s wife Brenda, his family and many friends.

400 Racers would just like to add our condolences to family and friends.
